About Me

Joanna Eade

A young woman with black, wavy hair smiling against a plain gray background.

Hello, I’m Joanna, a registered and accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a qualified clinical supervisor. I trained as an Integrative Counsellor and hold a Diploma in Counselling alongside an MSc in Psychology. My integrative approach allows me to tailor therapy to each individual, drawing on different models to best support your needs.

Alongside my private practice, I currently work within secondary education delivering counselling to young people. I am also committed to ongoing professional development and have recently completed training in creative approaches to therapy, which can offer alternative ways of exploring thoughts and feelings when words alone feel limiting.

Previously, I have worked within the NHS in both IAPT and palliative care settings, where I carried out assessments and delivered evidence-based therapy using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have also facilitated group counselling and provided supervision as part of a research project in a secondary care setting, supporting individuals with enduring mental health difficulties.

At the heart of my work is a genuine desire to help people move towards the future they want. I aim to support clients in regaining a sense of positivity, reducing stress and worry, and developing greater understanding of themselves. I offer a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can feel at ease and able to talk openly about whatever is troubling you.

I have experience working with adults and young people from a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds, and I welcome clients of all faiths and none. I am trained in a therapeutic framework that incorporates five key areas of human experience: emotional, physical, rational, volitional, and spiritual. The spiritual element can help clients explore questions of self-worth, meaning, significance, and security, always led by the client and their beliefs. While I have received training in Christian counselling, I do not pray with clients during sessions; however, when working with Christian clients, I may reference Christian resources where this feels appropriate and helpful.

I have previously worked as a counsellor at Manna House Counselling Service in Northampton and at Heart and Mind in London, gaining valuable experience in counselling agencies.

Outside of my professional work, I am married and have two young children, aged five and three. Parenthood has deepened my understanding of the complexities of family life, emotional demands, and the importance of compassion — both for ourselves and others. I have also always enjoyed being outdoors and walking. I grew up with many experiences of walking up mountains and continue to find nature deeply restorative. I am currently working my way through the Wainwrights in the Lake District, something that brings me a great sense of balance and perspective. As a result, walk-and-talk counselling is a growing interest of mine, offering an alternative therapeutic space for those who feel more comfortable talking side by side, surrounded by nature.

If you’d like to explore whether counselling with me feels right for you, I’d be very happy to hear from you.
